1.To see how the layers of a report fit together, open the Report Tree by selecting View | Toolbars | Report Tree.

2.There are two sections to the Report Tree dialog.
a.The top section may contain a Report Outline.  The Main report will form the top of the tree and sub reports (if any) will branch from the main report.
b.The bottom section contains an Object Outline that shows all bands and components listed in layered order.  The main branches will be the Bands of the report, i.e. Header, Group Header, Detail, Group Footer and Footer. Regions, Sub Reports and Components will branch out from the bands, and further components may branch out from the regions.
3.If you click on a component in the Report Tree, it will also be selected in the report layout.
4.You can use the Report Tree to ensure that components you have added or moved are located in the correct part of the report.  For example, if you intended to add a label to a region, that label should branch out from the region in the Object Outline of the Report Tree.  If the label is on the same level as the region (i.e. both are branching from the same point), that means the label is actually outside the region.
5.If a component is not in the correct location, return to the report layout and drag and drop the component into the correct region or band.  The position of the component in the Report Tree should change to reflect the move from one layer to another.
